Labor Day weekend signifies that summer has officially ended. The leading ladies of the San Diego Chargers reminded fans that transitioning into Fall means not only football season, but the annual unveil of the much anticipated 2013/14 Charger Girl Bikini Calendar.
At San Diego’s House of Blues, in the famous Gas Lamp district, the Charger girls kicked off their season by showcasing their stunning calendar photos by San Diego’s team photographer Mike Nowak. A huge crowd of Chargers fans lined up outside the doors to view the calendar’s reveal, get autographs, and take photos.
The photos spoke volumes about the hard work and dedication that comes with being an NFL cheerleader. The 2013/14 Charger Girls truly earned their position on the squad by making it through a grueling tryout process. This calendar is an immediate representation of the hard work and dedication it takes to be a part of this organization. Lisa Simmons, Director of SD Charger Girls, proudly watched the girls expressions as they unveiled the calendar to the fans and sponsors. Their anticipation grew as the huge poster boards draped with black linens were removed for all to see which pictures would be in the 16-month calendar. The lady Bolts and fans alike were overwhelmed with joy as they laid eyes on their hard work for the first time.
The calendar was shot by Chargers Team Photographer Mike Nowak with a theme dedicated to the men and women serving in our military. Nowak’s calendar shots where dazzled with the Charger Girls posing with a variety of military grade equipment in designer swimwear provided by Sauvage.
One of the organization’s goals is to give to the community and they will do just this by donating the calendar sales to the Wounded Warrior Project (WWP). The WWP is a program designed to help disabled vets returning from the Iraq and Afghanistan. The 2013/2014 calendar will serve as a huge morale booster to our men and women serving overseas especially the troops stationed here out of San Diego.
Pro Player Insiders was able to get a better understanding of the calendar reveal and what it means to be a Charger Girl from, Alexis Alexandra.
PPI: What did you do to prepare for the swimsuit calendar this year?
Alexis: To prepare for it of course we have to have healthy bodies and with our LA fitness membership that was very important. We stuck with our trainer Kenny! Kenny worked us hard a lot of sprints a lot of running.
PPI: What was your favorite part about the shoot?
Alexis: My favorite part about the shoot was that we got to work with airplanes and all types of military equipment. We actually went to Moreno Valley March Air Force base. It was really cool because I was close to home. I’m from Hemet so it was definitely familiar territory.
PPI: How long have you been cheering?
Alexis: I have actually been dancing since the age of 4 so I have not cheered a day in my life. Coming in as a Charger Girl I found that I was more technically trained rather than trained in cheering. I was a jazz and ballet dancer before this so this is a new experience and journey for me.
PPI: Who’s your favorite Charger player?
Alexis: That’s a tough one, because for a while it was Philip Rivers and Ryan Mathews. I’m not really sure yet because I’m still getting to know the players. I’m still learning the game so things have changed.
PPI: What’s your favorite part about being a Charger Girl?
Alexis: My favorite part about being a Charger girl is that I get to meet and work with these amazing women. Other than that I get to dance. It’s what I dreamed of doing it feels great.
PPI: Are you doing anything other than cheer leading?
Alexis: I’m currently enrolled in to Dental Assistant School and I hope to continue on to be a Dental Hygienist down the road. I was a little unsure what I wanted to do with my life going into the Charger girls. I started in public relations, but now I’m doing something a little different. I want to be outside of the box and try everything.
PPI: What do you like to do on your free time?
Alexis: I like to hike; actually I like to hike a lot. I recently got a dog named Oscar. So I like to spend my time with Oscar. He is a Dachshund. So that’s what I like to do in my spare time.
Alexis Alexandra, one of the newest members of the 28 person squad, is the perfect example of the hard working, quality women that wear Charger Girl uniforms on Sundays. The 2013/14 Charger Girl Bikini Calendar is yet another way to show how much the Chargers organization appreciates the fans and the San Diego community.
